Hometown Pride Party to Run Candidate in Malverne Election

MALVERNE, NY—The Hometown Pride Party filed their petition yesterday to place Lori A. Lang, lifelong Malverne resident and 2019 mayoral candidate, on the ballot for village trustee in the upcoming Malverne election.

In 2019, Lang and her running mates, Antony Pfeffer, Rossana Weitekamp, and Monica Coffey-Murray, ran a campaign committed to reviving the democratic process in Malverne. The Hometown Pride Party aimed to increase resident involvement and awareness in the affairs of their village government. Providing residents with a choice at the ballot box was just a first step in this process, and although we came up short in the last election, Malverne saw a historic turnout of nearly 2,400 voters. Village Election Day in 2019 was truly inspiring and reminded all residents why contested elections are vital to promoting interest in local governance.

Today, the Hometown Pride Party is committed to ensuring that Malvernites continue to have the opportunity for their voices to be heard. Having received approximately 40 percent of votes cast for mayor in 2019, Lori Lang understands the real concerns of so many Malverne residents and seeks to bring her unique perspective to the Village Board.

Lang is a wife to her husband, Rob, a mother of five children, a dedicated volunteer, a community organizer, and a small business owner. Her expertise in marketing communications and business administration will serve the board well as she seeks to increase the channels of communication between residents and their Village government. Founder and administrator of the I Love Malverne Facebook group, Lang well understands how Malvernites seek out their information and wants to use this knowledge in service of the Village Board. Lang, a local small business owner, also recognizes the many struggles Malverne merchants face, particularly those resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. To help keep the doors of Malverne’s storefronts open, Lang organized an initiative called “Malverne Helping Our Merchants” in May 2019, which infused over $50,000 into the Malverne downtown economy during the most challenging period of the pandemic. This campaign brought residents together in typical Malverne fashion, and its innovative fundraising strategy serves as an example of Lori’s proactive, responsive leadership style.

Lori Lang is committed to Malverne’s success—the success of the Village Board, Malverne Merchants, and all village residents. She humbly asks for your support to serve her community of 47 years. The Malverne Village election will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 7 am to 9 pm at the Malverne Firehouse.
